who are we?

We’re Kale and Sarah, two friends who have grown up together in Miramichi, New Brunswick. We’d like to say that our friendship grew naturally, but we owe a large chunk of it to our moms, who arranged afterschool playdates (check out the video below, taken at one of said playdates). We’ve been close since middle school, were yearbook editors together in our senior year of high school, and have both recently graduated from Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia.

We’ve always had a flair for the creative arts - we ran a short-lived dance club in our freshman year of high school, and have made a number of short films both for school and just for fun (which may see the light of day eventually). Kale has dipped his toes in making music, and Sarah has expressed herself creatively through crafts and clothing. It’s safe to say that this podcast came to fruition without apprehension.

ABOUT
US

what’s the podcast about?

This podcast is about fascinations, big and small. In an effort to appreciate the ever-changing lives and interests that we have, we bring new topics and voices onto the podcast each week. Our goal is for this podcast to grow with us, and to explore any and every topic imaginable. So far, we've touched on self-help, personal growth, mysteries, true stories of survival and crimes, superstitions, conspiracies, obsessions, sexuality, guest life experiences, and so much more.

It is often the norm for podcasts to center on a main topic, and while it may not seem like IASWAL is focused on one defining thing - that's exactly the point.

WHERE DID THE PODCAST NAME COME FROM?

It’s the question on everyone’s minds! Yes, this podcast truly did all start with a lightbulb. More specifically, It All Started With a 40 Watt Incandescent SYLVANIA brand Lightbulb. Let us explain…

We’ve worked together as summer students in a dimly lit hospital basement for the past two summers. We were in desperate need of some more lighting, and that’s where the lamp in the cover art of the poddy came into play. The lamp was missing a lightbulb, so we went on the hunt for one. After talking to Kenny, who told us about a lad named Gary, we found our lightbulb. It’s rather strange how the next part of the story came to be… Upon screwing in the lightbulb and it illuminating our workspace, Sarah turned to Kale with an idea that had just come to her:

“We should start a podcast.”
